WASHINGTON (A.W.)—Armenia’s Minister of the Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan and Armenia’s Ambassador to the United States Grigor Hovhannissian met with Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Eastern Region Central Committee member Hovsep Avakian and Homenetmen (Armenian General Athletic Union and Scouts) Eastern U.S. Regional Executive Chair Vahe Tanashian in Washington D.C. on March 26.
During the meeting, Minister Hakobyan praised the Armenian Diaspora’s role—particularly the role of the ARF and its sister organizations—in supporting the Republic of Armenia. She also praised the Homenetmen scouting jamborees, which take place every four years in Armenia, and the important role they play in introducing young Diasporans to the homeland.
The issue of Syrian Armenians was also discussed, as Hakobyan detailed how the Armenian government has been helping those who have relocated to Armenia as a result of the ongoing conflict in Syria. She also urged the two diasporan representatives to continue their cooperation with the Armenian authorities, so that through shared resources, the plight of the Syrian Armenians is mitigated as much as possible.
